Spliced - Oil Painting

Spliced is a depiction of my feelings regarding my relationship with my boyfriend at the time. We lived apart for many years which caused emotional strain in our relationship. I felt I needed to make up memories to keep myself connected to him and the dream of our future.
The painting does not capture future dreams, but it does demonstrate how artwork can channel a person’s true feelings. Spliced embodied my discomfort with a long-distance relationship. The overall feel of the painting is intense, confined, and ghoulish. The palette chosen is dark and is accentuated by the dramatic highlights placed on the figures. Each figure is spotlighted and confined in separate spaces by color. The third figure from the left is a faded out shadow/phantom of me. I think the phantom reflects best my feelings of loss within the relationship.
